Friday Rant

Three days left on my 99cent Sale for Al Clark (Book One), and I’m unsure whether to be happy or sad. For this promotion I picked eight of the best promo sites other than Bookbub, and invested $225.00. So far, it looks as if I will break even and perhaps distribute 150 copies. Is it a success or failure? Hard to tell.

Marketing books in today’s climate can be daunting and frustrating. Every time I find something that works, the tactic does not last long. The only true constant seems to be having a lot of books, and devoting a lot of time to promotion. Unfortunately, promotion steals time from writing and makes it difficult to be prolific.

I am a retired electrician with a love for science fiction, that writes to supplement my income. My savings allow me a comforable life with few frills, so whatever extra income I can produce is helpful. When it comes to marketing my books, it’s necessary to have a posative outcome.

Promoting books for free is no longer worth bothering with, which leads to an ever growing marketing budget. A SciFi post on Bookbub is $750, and well worth it if you can get in. If handled properly, it is one of the few sites where you can be guaranteed to do better than break even. Even though the price is way above my budget, I submit as often as possible. To this point I have not been accepted–but I have hope.

Everything I have goes into my books. Because I won’t be able to leave my kids a large estate after my passing, the books will be my legacy. Thanks to all of you that support me, and Please don’t be afraid to leave a review or tell your friends. Every little bit helps immensely.
